Purchased a pretty rough #6 Improved at a gun show last weekend and have been sprucing it up. It had some pretty heavy pitting on the one side of the barrel and receiver so I didn't feel bad about taking it down to white metal and blueing it with some Dicopan. Bore is fantastic and am looking forward to shooting it.
My problem is how to get it back together. How do you compress the coil spring, with end pieces, between the falling block and the hammer. Any tricks or tips would be appreciated.

#6 Improved Assembly Problems
Re: #6 Improved Assembly Problems
I finally got it.
Barrel attached to action
falling block in place
barrel clamped in vice with action upside down
place spring assembly in action, engaged with block
insert 2/16" steel ron in stock connection hole and push all of the way forward, this keeps the spring from buckeling
Clamp hammer in set of vice grips
Engage other end of spring.
Hold down spring with rod, compress spring with hammer until holes align and have helper put punch in hole.
Remove rod, align holes with punch, and put pin in
